Astros Brian McCann Out Four to Six Weeks

The Houston Astros announced on Tuesday catcher Brian McCann will be out four to six weeks after deciding he needed surgery on his right knee, prompting the team to go with Max Stassi behind the dish until the veteran returns.

McCann’s presence will be missed during such an extended leave, but Astros officials are high on Stassi, who has a .255/.335/482 slash line in 2018. Stassi also has seven home runs in under 150 at-bats.

If Stassi is not able to produce and McCann’s recovery takes longer than expected, the team may be in the market for another catcher.

Possible targets include New York Mets catcher Devin Mesoraco, who is having a solid season after being traded to New York a little over a month ago.

The McCann injury issue is one to keep an eye on as we head towards the stretch run.
