BELLATOR IS FIRST TO HAWAII

Once upon a time there was a race between the US and RUSSIA to see who would go to outer space first. Recently there was a much less competitive race; but an interesting one to see which “main” MMA organization would get to perform first in HAWAII. With the long storied career of  BJ PENN, it’s hard to imagine that the UFC has never gone to our 50th state. For quite some time now the push to get it done from the UFC came from featherweight champion MAX HOLLOWAY. Almost like the way CHRIS WEIDMAN  helped lead the charge to legalize the sport in New York. On the BELLATOR side Scott Coker has his female flyweight champion; ILIMA-LEI MACFARLANE chirping in his ear. Dana White has been quoted many times saying he’d love to bring the UFC there; but the commission fees and taxes are just way too high.

So it’s Bellator to cross the Pacific 1st. On December 15th in the NEAL S BLAISDELL CENTER in Honolulu it all goes down at BELLATOR 210. It’ll mark the first big event on the islands since ELITE XC in 2008. The undefeated 28 year old champ gets to defend her belt at home vs UFC veteran  VALERIE LETOURNEAU. For those in the main land states and the rest of the world Bellator’s new home; DAZN will stream it live. Also announced for that card were two matches of huge importance. Another former UFC fighter; LYOTO MACHIDA makes his company debut against fellow Brazilian, and former middle weight champion  RAFAEL CARVALHO. The third fight is an opening round fight in the welterweight grand prix with a lot at stake. It’s a battle of undefeated fighters; 29 year old NEIMAN GRACIE and 27 year old former 3 time all-american; ED RUTH. The winner of that will next take on the winner of the JON FITCH – RORY MACDONALD fight. So they need to stay sharp, as that next match is deadly.

Scott Coker has said one thing he’s looking forward to is trying to bring the entire card to the PEARL HARBOR site early in fight week. Let’s just all say a prayer that these 3 announced so far fights all make it to fight night. Because just remember what happened when THE BRADY BUNCH went there.
