Bryce Harper to Phillies for Record $330 Million

The Bryce Harper sweepstakes did not venture into March.

Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to an insane 13 year, $330 million deal. There will be NO opt-outs for either side.

Harper’s deal bypasses Manny Machado’s record breaker last week in regards to total money, but if Machado were to stay in San Diego all 10 years of his deal, his would be ultimately the “better” deal.

Harper had been linked to many teams the past few months, but the Phillies who had been said to have “stupid money” to spend, decided to go about spending that money on Harper to shore up an already dangerous lineup. This addition of Harper will force Nick Williams into a fourth outfielder role.

In 2018, Harper only hit .249, but finally reached the 100 RBI plateau for the first time in his career. Harper’s .279/.388/.512 career slash line at the age of 26 is pretty impressive, prompting the Phillies to go all in for one of the game’s more controversial but elite players.

With both Harper and Machado both getting these massive deals, one can only imagine if Mike Trout will be the first ever $400 million man.
