CALVILLO GETS 6 MONTH SUSPENSION

USADA has handed down their suspension of TEAM ALPHA MALE 30 year old CYNTHIA CALVILLO. And it’s a 6 month maximum stay away. If she; and by all accounts she will, take and complete an USADA approved drug management and awareness program can get it knocked down to just 3 months. It means she can return between March 30th and June 30th. It’s also possible that the NSAC will be hitting her with a fine in lieu of a suspension from them.

The 6-1 fighter “popped” for failing an in-competition drug test for THC. It was from leading up to her fight with CARLA ESPARZA; which she wound up losing via unanimous decision (her 1st career loss). The “light” suspension could be in part due to it being a 1st time infraction and the immediate remorse she showed and the willingness to make things right. Alpha head coach/founder URIJAH FABER has sung her praises since she came to them when she fought in LFA. During UFC 217 week in NYC, as a “UFC ambassador” she told ME during an interview it was her goal to by December 2018 fight for the strawweight championship. That now looks like a very tiny shot of happening even if she came back at the end of March. That’s due to the “heat” going on in the division right now.

Champ ROSE NAMAJUNAS is giving JOANNA JEDRZEJCZYK her immediate rematch; they very well can turn it into a trilogy as well. Also in line are two Brazilian buzzsaws in JESSICA ANDRADE and CLAUDIA GADELHA, not to mention TECIA TORRES. So if Cynthia is able to put a 4-5 fight winning streak together she could be in line for a crack at the belt. With her liking to be active (she fought 5 times in 2017); it’s very possible by say July 2019.
