Quarterbacks get the glory. Running backs and wide receivers get the highlights. However, football games are often won and lost in the trenches between offensive linemen and defensive linemen. One of the reasons that Alabama has had such a dominant run during the 2010s is because of their defensive line play. Former Crimson Tide stars like Marcell Dareus, Jonathan Allen, and Da’Ron Payne have played big roles for Alabama teams that have won national championships. During the 2018 college football season, one college football team has an embarrassment of riches along their defensive line that will give offensive line headaches throughout the season.

The Clemson Tigers are no newcomer to the college football spotlight. They have established themselves as one of the top programs in the nation by playing in three consecutive College Football Playoffs , including winning the 2016 national championship. Although they have gotten a lot attention over the past decade for having electrifying offensive performers like former quarterback Deshaun Watson, former running back C.J. Spiller, and former wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Clemson has also had great defensive linemen like Da’Quan Bowers and Grady Jarrett. During the 2018 college football season, Clemson’s defensive line will arguably be the best unit of any college football team in the entire country.

Perhaps the most well known of the multiple stars on the Clemson defensive line is senior defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. Although is known for his dance moves, Wilkins is a versatile, disruptive force that also has terrific initial quickness. The other senior starting on the defensive line, defensive end Austin Bryant, had one of the best games of any defensive player in the country in 2017 when he had five sacks against a talented Auburn offensive line. The youngest starter among the beasts on that line is junior defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. Lawrence is an Earth-mover at six feet, four inches tall and 340 pounds. However, the best defensive lineman of the entire group is junior defensive end Clelin Ferrell. He has a prototypical frame at six feet, five inches tall and 260 pounds.

In recent years, schools like LSU and Alabama have been known for having deep and talented defensive lines. It is often reflected in recruiting and during the NFL Draft. Quarterbacks and offensive linemen facing Clemson this upcoming season need to beware because every single one of the starting defensive linemen for Clemson will be in the NFL in 2019 and they plan on wrecking game plans during the 2018 college football season.
