CONOR CAUSES CHAOS AT BELLATOR 187

Creating issues in and out of the cage for your own organization is one thing. You may even be able to get away with most things; providing you’re a big enough name. Hey; all people are not created equal. But do something in another company’s barn; and there will be repercussions to pay. Friday night BELLATOR 187 was in the 3Arena in Dublin Ireland; a double card with BAMMA. The card was littered with SBG Ireland fighters; aka teammates of UFC lightweight champion CONOR MCGREGOR. Not only were other teammates sitting cageside, but so was “THE NOTORIOUS ONE”.

During the CHARLIE WARDJOHN REDMOND fight; Conor stood and was quite animated. Conor’s actually gotten close with the middleweight Ward. At 4:59 of the 1st round a left hook put John down and out for a TKO loss. Conor then leaped over the top of the fence to embrace his teammate as he got back to the win column after dropping 2 straight fights in the UFC. Then all hell broke loose.

Referee MARC GODDARD and Bellator officials tried to separate and get Conor out of the cage. Conor then went after Mark who he had issues with during the ARTEM LOBOV – ANDRE FILI fight at UFC Fight Night 118 when he was warned to sit down and not scream instructions. McGregor here pushed Marc in the back and went nose to nose with him. The Irishman was finally escorted from the cage when he doubled back and leaning over the fence managed to slap a Bellator security official named MIKE JOHNSON which can be seen in a video obtained by TMZ. To a thunderous applause from all his fans he did one more march around the cage before finally leaving the building.

President of the Association of Boxing Commissioners; MIKE MAZZULLI, who was there serving in a regulatory capacity afterwards said “Mr. McGregor is not bigger than the sport of MMA and will be punished”, and that there will be an official statement coming within 24 hours. Jason High and Roy Nelson were both seriously punished for doing less. Now it’s true wives, family, close friends are allowed in after a fight has been completed before an official result is announced by a ring announcer; it’s done after the opponent is cleared by medical. If McGregor would have waited 120 seconds; the sh*t would not be hitting the fan. Marc and the Bellator officials were themselves wrong as well for possibly escalating things. But with Conor taking things to a physical level the minimum is a possible banning from all Bellator events to possibly a one year suspension which obviously has serious ramifications to the UFC’s bottom line. Bellator’s parent company VIACOM released the following statement: “We’re aware of the in-cage altercation between Conor McGregor and one of our staff; we hold the safety and well being of our staff in the highest regard and are presently reviewing the situation”. So on a night where Dana has to deal with losing SPIDER SILVA for an USADA violation he now has this migraine headache to deal with.

Meanwhile in other “SCHEDULED” fights:

PAUL REDMOND in his Bellator debut picked up a unanimous decision win over SERGIO DE JESUS SANTOS“BABY SLICE” KEVIN FERGUSON JR woulda made his dad KIMBO SLICE proud by submitting FRED FREEMAN to a RNC 1:57 into round 1. SINEAD KAVANGH; who missed weight by 3.8 pounds ended a 2 fight losing streak by TKO’ing MARIA CASANOVA in the 1st round. In the main event one of the most dangerous featherweights 22 year old AJ MCKEE who replaced SBG fighter JAMES GALLAGHER wound up taking out another SBG fighter; BRYAN MOORE while improving to 10-0 by RNC 4:14 into round 3.
