DIAZ VS THE DIAMOND IN NYC

The UFC since MMA has been legal in New York has always made its “GARDEN PARTY” something huge. The 3rd time will continue the tradition. While the card is still in its embryonic stages, and fights can and usually do fall off up to fight night; there’s now a “special buzz”.

NATE DIAZ makes his return after a 2 year hiatus vs the red hot DUSTIN POIRIER. With this fight signed it potentially sets up a 4 man tourney for the lightweight title. The winner taking on the winner of the “officially yet to be signed” title fight between KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV and CONOR MCGREGOR. Which sets up interesting match-ups all over the place. Conor already has a win over both Dustin and Nate (with a loss also). Khabib’s grinding sambo against Dustin and Nate’s come at you style would be electric. The LA TIMES broke the news first and was then confirmed by MMA FIGHTING  and MMA JUNKIE ahead of a major press conference happening tonight after the ceremonial weigh-ins for UFC 227. The Khabib – Conor fight UFC officials hope will be October 6th in Vegas, and their 2nd choice is December 29th there also. As a last resort they’d consider November 3rd.

The Garden card also has what looks like a mini middleweight tournament so far. Although 2 men  (ROCKHOLD and ROMERO) have hinted about moves up to 205. It’s Luke vs WEIDMAN 2, Romero vs a surging PAULO COSTAJACARE vs BRANCHISRAEL ADESANYA vs DEREK BRUNSON is being talked about. And NY’s LYMAN GOOD will be facing SULTAN ALIEV.

Nate’s 2-2 in his last 4; losing a majority decision to Conor at UFC 202. While Dustin’s on a 3 fight win streak. The last 2 being wars vs GAETHJE, and ALVAREZ. Khabib has said he feels Tony needs to win at least 1 fight before a title shot, Eddie absolutely needs to be on a winning streak to even be considered to fight for the belt he once held. Which most likely will lead to a TONY FERGUSON – EDDIE ALVAREZ  fight very early next year. Of course that’s if the UFC and Eddie Alvarez sign a new contract. It’s no secret that Nate has been jonesing for the trilogy with Conor; this helps put it on track. Dustin did say after his fight with Eddie; he’d like to spend some time with the family and only wanted to fight for the belt. The opportunity to use Nate as a notch on his belt is as strong as the death star tractor beam.
