The best free agent reliever available has found a home on Opening Day.

The St. Louis Cardinals, who were entering the season using a closer by committee with Luke Gregerson on the disabled list, have signed Greg Holland and will most likely be joining the team this weekend in New York as they face the Mets on opening weekend.

Holland, an All-Star with the Colorado Rockies last season, emerged as a dominant closer after dealing with injuries over the past few seasons. He was a key component in regards to the Rockies wild card berth as a lock down closer.

With Dominic Leone originally slated to get 9th inning duties along with Tyler Lyons (against lefties), Holland will most likely be plugged right into the closer’s role within a week or so once he gets his feet wet after missing all of Spring Training.
