HOW BIG CAN THIS "ROSE" GROW? | Bonehead Picks

With plenty of sun, water, and caring; ROSE NAMAJUNAS can become the biggest flower in the UFC’s garden. Especially since many had looked at her as an after thought. As if she wasn’t supposed to be there.

She came to the UFC from INVICTA after being dropped by TECIA TORRES and lost her debut to CARLA ESPARZA in the TUF 20 finale. Those back-to-back loses taught the young Namajunas many things. The at the time 22 year old was learning “on the job” on how to handle the stiffer competition. Her standup, wrestling, grappling, bjj are not anything that makes you say “wow”; but they’re effective. Especially with TREVOR WITTMAN now helping her with game planning. What she lacks in flair and personality she more than makes up for in self belief and intense focus. The UFC was giving a huge push to PAIGE VANZANT when Rose choked her out. It meant she’d be stepping up in competition and took the re-match vs Tecia. That meant another step up for her. After losing a close split decision vs KAROLINA KOWALKIEWICZ she got a bump to step in with another fighter the UFC was giving a huge push to in MICHELLE WATERSON. There’s no denying the powers that be wanted a Karate Hottie vs Joanna match up. Rose ruined those plans by bloodying Michelle, dominating her, then making her tap to a RNC. Going into UFC 217 hardly anyone thought she’d beat the un-beatable Joanna Jedrzejczyk. But Joanna had been clipped before, and maybe could again. With Thug Rose beating Joanna and then just beating her again; for now she’s in the rear view mirror. But don’t think for a second belt or no belt Joanna wants to “right the wrong” in a trilogy match someday.

So what’s on the horizon for Namajunas? If she would like to get 2 more fights in 2018 they’d ideally be August and December. Re-matching Karolina might be her first choice while the top 2 contenders square things up. The 26 year old Brazilian; Jessica Andrade has been punching holes in people recently. Therefore Rose may make her wait to take on the winner of the fellow Brazilian Claudia Gadelha and the woman she lost to in becoming the 1st ever UFC Strawweight Champion; Carla Esparza. Right behind this trio you can bet Tecia would like to trilogy against her, and Waterson would like another crack too. The young Mexican; Alexa Grasso will no doubt be leading the next wave charge. Namajunas definitely has her work cut out for her in holding that strap. But she absolutely has the determination that may see her through those shark infested waters.

When it’s all said and done this little flower may just wind up being the centerpiece of the garden.
