Kansas WR Chase Harrell Transferring To Arkansas

While Chad Morris will be looking for his new quarterback in the Fall, he will already have some experience coming at wide receiver for the next two years. His presence a year earlier could have made a difference and brought the Razorbacks to .500, and Bret Beleima may still have a job. Arkansas grabbed a graduate transfer out west from Kansas as Chase Harrell annonounced on Twitter that he was finishing up his career at Fayetteville. As a graduate transfer, he is eligible immediately.

In only 13 games in two seasons for the Jayhawks, Harrell compiled only 302 yards receiving and five touchdowns. This past season he caught for 221 yards and three touchdowns, which would have made him fourth in receiving had he played for the Razorbacks last season. Instead, he was fifth in receiving for the Jayhawks, but second in touchdown receptions. Harrell’s presence will add some needed experience for the top three receivers returning for the Razorbacks.

The Razorbacks were seventh in the SEC in receiving and touchdown receptions, and also seventh in the conference in yards per game. While at SMU, Morris had two players ranked in the top ten in receiving yards per game and receptions per game in the AAC, and both of those players were in the top ten in receiving yards (second and sixth respectively). A total of four players with 200 receiving yards or more on this year’s roster will make the Razorbacks a potential airing threat.

While I might have possibly underestimated Morris’ coaching skills at receiving, he must still have a quarterbacks he can rely on to put up those numbers the fans expect. From the look of last year’s stats at SMU, receiving could be on the rise in the SEC in the next couple of years and Harrell could have a part in it.
