There was definitely something in the water the judges were drinking at UFC 222 at the T-Mobile Arena. They tied the record for most split decisions in the UFC with 5, and they added on 2 more by unanimous.

“SUGAR” SEAN O’MALLEY has all the makings of a star. You can add that he’s now 10-0 also. He and ANDRE SOUKHAMTHATH had a very intense week leading into the fight. Sean kept Andre off balance by switching stances and changing levels perfectly. He landed kicks and strikes from every angle possible and hurt The Asian Sensation a couple of times while stalking him. Andre’s back was to the fence for most of it. He also dropped him with a right hand that kept landing. In the second round Andre started to get his legs under him a bit more and went on attack mode. Everything he landed however was countered with a stronger attack though. Soukhamthath got a takedown but O’Malley out worked him from the bottom. In the third round Sean landed a high kick that was partially blocked and appeared to break or fracture Sean’s foot. He was instantly in deep trouble. But instead of making him stand and bang, Andre kept trying to take the action off the feet and onto the mat. After one O’Malley literally hopped on one leg, yet was taken down again. Sean was screaming in pain when he was actually declared the winner via unanimous decision while still laying on his back. He’s also the 1st to do a post fight interview while on his back; before he was carried out of the cage. ANDREI ARLOVSKI traded kicks with STEFAN STRUVE and took him down 6 times en route to a unanimous decision win and a 2 fight winning streak while the 7 foot Stefan slides to 2-5 in his last 7 fights.

KETLEN VIEIRA is making a claim to get a bantamweight title shot in the near future as she also improved to 10-0. She did that with a strange split decision win over the returning CAT ZINGANO. They exchanged early with Cat landing some good shots but Ketlen kept her normal press forward pace. Vieira got a massive takedown and went to work with GNP from the top and attempted a couple of submissions. From that point on Ketlen was smothering Cat till the last 2 minutes of the fight when Zingano went all out. But it was way too little too late. Vieira then embraced a teary eyed Zingano. The much ballyhooed MACKENZIE DERN made her UFC debut vs ASHLEY YODER. Dern threw wild punches and kicks that pushed the action to the fence where they traded knees in the clinch. That was something that happened a lot as Dern had trouble getting Ashley down. When she finally managed to she was unable to get the submission finish; but picked up a split decision. 25 year old ALEXANDER HERNANDEZ took his UFC debuting fight vs BENEIL DARIUSH on a weeks notice. He had said TJ DILLASHAW was someone he looked up to and wanted to fight like. Hernandez came out charging at Dariush; throwing and landing a left hand to the jaw dropping the veteran and putting him to sleep jst 42 seconds into the fight. The KO; now gives Alexander a 7 fight win streak. In what may be his last UFC fight JOHN DODSON was just too fast, precise, and picture perfect for PEDRO MUNHOZ; ending his 4 fight win streak via split decision. HECTOR LOMBARD landed a right and a vicious left that dropped CB DOLLOWAY right after the horn sounded and getting disqualified for it. CB was then carried from the cage.

ZAK OTTOW defeated MIKE PYLE by 1st round TKO (2:34) as Mike retires to become a full time Hollywood stuntman. CODY STAMANN beat the returning BRYAN CARAWAY by split decision and JORDAN JOHNSON did the same to ADAM MILSTEAD.
