Mets Trade Joey Bats to Philly

In what appears to be the final go around for Jose Bautista in the Major Leagues, he is getting one more shot to potentially go to a playoff contender.

The New York Mets traded Bautista to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

It’s the Mets, so we expect it to be cash.

Bautista after starting the season with the Atlanta Braves and looking washed up, the Mets signed him and he made a decent impact with the club, tallying an on-base percentage over .340 with the team. He hit some home runs as well, but it is pretty obvious Bautista is having issues catching up to some fastballs as he nears the end of his career.

Joining the Phillies, Bautista will be coming off the bench and getting spot starts when need be during the final month of the season. The Mets traded former teammate Asdrubal Cabrera to the Phillies as well last month, proving that trading within a division isn’t ludicrous as long as the team is willing to give the Mets some money in return.
