Mike Moustakas Returns to Kansas City

The Moose is no longer loose.

Mike Moustakas had to wait until there were three weeks left until the Major League season to finally sign a contract . . .

With the team he originally left.

Moustakas and the Kansas City Royals agreed to a one year deal which can then mutually become a two year deal.

The power hitting third baseman, who smacked a whopping 38 home runs last season, couldn’t find a home during this year’s frugal free agency period. Many teams decided to find cheaper alternatives than spend big money on a player like Moustakas, who has a career .305 on-base percentage.

His very low strikeout rate and solid defense at third base made him a rare outlier to normal free agency trends.

He had turned down much more money with Kansas City before electing free agency and finally ending up with upwards of $7.7 million by the end of the 2018 season.

It’s now on Moustakas to show teams 2017 was not a fluke and he deserves that long term contract.
