Nationals Land Patrick Corbin

The National League East is going to soon be known as the Beasts of The National League.

Seemingly one-upping Philadelphia, Atlanta and New York, the Washington Nationals made a big splash on Tuesday afternoon, signing free agent left-hander Patrick Corbin to a six-year deal, worth over $125 million.

Corbin had been linked to the New York Yankees, but apparently the higher salary amount offered by Washington was enough to sway his decision. The Yankees were reportedly around the $100 million over five years range.

Corbin had an outstanding bounce back season in 2018, posting an 11-7 record with a 3.15 ERA, striking out 246 in 200 innings. He has had a lengthy injury history, making this signing a very risky one for Washington. However, with the recent moves by the Mets, Phillies and Braves, Washington had to counter with a punch of their own.

The National League East is going to be the division to watch in 2019.
