Ever have one of those days where there’s so much going on, you just don’t know what to do first? That was the case Friday night in the world of MMA. The plethora to choose from actually continues all weekend long too. Let’s run down Friday’s action:

LFA 9 was in the FIRELAKE CASINO in SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMAJR COUGHRAN took a majority decision over DANIEL CAREYEDDIE BROWN won a unanimous decision over  MALCOLM HILL, and TRAVIS QUINTERO won one over NATHAN TREPAGNIERKYLE DRISCOLL beat JOSE MARTINEZ via unanimous decision. In what was without a doubt the most devastating move of the night anywhere; 20 yr old SABINA “THE COLUMBIAN QUEEN” MAZO  landed a right head kick flush on JAMIE THORTON that put her to sleep before she even hit the canvas.

DON’TALE MAYES spoiled the hometown return of DEMOREO DENNIS by taking a unanimous decision. Then his older brother MYRON DENNIS making his LFA debut went to 14-5 winning by a split decision.

Over in VICTORY FC 56; from the BAXTER ARENA in OHMAHANEBRASKA;  BERNARD THOMAS took a split decision over BOIMAH KARMO.  COREY DAVIS made KENNY LICEA tap out to a rear naked choke at 4:58 of round 1. BRYCE LOGAN won over WILL SHUTT by an injury submission 4:23 into the 1st round. Then TONY ORTEGA tapped with an injury  just 1:24 into round 1 to TERRENCE ALMOND. Highly touted fighter SODIQ YUSUFF took a unanimous decision victory over CHUKA WILLIS, as did EJ BROOKS over DAKOTA COCHRANE. In the main and co main events; titles were on the line and both left the arena with new owners. The welterweight title came in with champ KASSIUS HOLDORF and left with challenger #andnew YURI VILLEFORT who proved to be as dangerous as his billing; winning a unanimous decision. Then the bantamweight belt was up for grabs from champion ROBERT EMERSON against challenger RAUFEON STOTS; another very dangerous striker who trains with the great DUKE ROUFUS. This one as well went to the judges scorecards and saw the same #andnew result. Stots improved to 8-0 as a pro.

BELLATOR had another split card of mma/kickboxing, coming from BUDAPEST HUNGARY. The MMA portion started out with MATE KERTESZ defeating PATRICK SZOMBAT via TKO due to punches at 4:23 of round 2. BRIAN MOORE defeated MICHAL HOREJSI by TKO from strikes 3:57 of the 2nd round.

Hungary native ADAM BORICS was making his Bellator debut against ANTHONY “PRETTY BOY” TAYLOR. Adam came out stalking and swinging managed to drop him first. Adam landed leg kicks but got busted open above the left eye. Taylor then kicked in cup and referee TODD ANDERSON calls for time. Adam’s left hook is deadly accurate and keeps rocking Taylor, eventually getting his back and cinching in a tremendous RNC as Adam taps out at 4:12 of round 1. LENA “HUNTER” OVCHYNNIKOVA was matched up against HELLEN “HELLRAISER” HARPER. Helen, who was not only making her Bellator debut; but facing a taller much more experienced fighter. Lena has; 8 submission victories and is after this fight 12-4 1 nc. Harper was able to get “the hunter” down fast and tried some submission attempts of her own to no avail. The Lena started using her reach advantage and blasted Hellen continuously till she was a bloody mess. The onslaught of powerful knees and left hooks did most of the damage. In between rounds 2 and 3 the cageside doctor came in and had the fight stopped, giving a TKO win to Ovchynnikova. JOHN “MACAPA” TEIXEIRA DA CONCEICAO was on a 6 fight win streak; the last 5 all being decisions. He also came into the cage with 10 submission victories. DANIEL “DRAKE” WEICHEL himself had a 3 fight win streak a 38-9 record 22 via submission. So someone was gonna taste defeat for the first time in a while. John, came out stunning Daniel and pushed the action against the fence; then connected with a couple of lefts. He was landing kicks and out striking Teixeira 3-1. As the fight continued John kept landing those combos. Towards the end of the 2nd round things started to change. Weichel landed his own shots. Including some head kicks that rocked John. Daniel showed true grit and heart coming back and picking up the split decision victory.

Originally, EDUARDO “DUDU” DANTAS was supposed to put the bantam weight belt up for grabs versus DARRION CALDWELL. He had to pull out 4 weeks ago with an undisclosed injury. Replacing him would be the feisty LEANDRO “PITBULL” HIGO; who would be making his Bellator debut on an 8 fight win streak and 10 submission victories. However, on Thursday it was announced that Darrion’s title would NOT be on the line as Higo missed weight by 4 pounds, and he’d also be giving up 20% of his purse. The 3 straight wins by the champ have all been decisions. Dantas had Leandro backing up into the fence early on with a flurry of kicks and jabs, as well as a scoring back fist. Pitbull threw a couple of leg kicks but they were answered with 3-4 counter strikes. Leandro did manage to attempt a guillotine to no avail. That started a “mini comeback” by Higo; but unlike the co main event this was a case of 2 little 2 late as Eduardo walked off with another decision win in a row, this one being a split.

The nonstop MMA action this weekend continues with UFC on Fox from Kansas City, and a fun RIZIN card in Japan.
