Previewing Kentucky’s 2018 Schedule

With recent news of athletic director Mitch Barnhart receiving a contract extension at Kentucky, you have to believe that things are looking up in all sports. The hopeful turnaround in football seems positive despite losing the last two bowl games under Mark Stoops (last four overall). The only concern is who will be their quarterback to start the 2018 campaign as it appears that the SEC East is on the rise again, team by team. Here is a look at the 2018 schedule coming up for the Wildcats.

With two of the first three games out of conference (Central Michigan and Murray State), it appears to be mostly brutal. They start off heading to Gainesville to take on Florida and new head coach Dan Mullen, which does not look promising. With seven straight SEC games after September 15, four of them may be hard to overcome starting with Mississippi State and South Carolina at home, followed by a trip to Texas A&M to face Jimbo Fisher, then an off week before hosting Vanderbilt.

Two of the final three may be a mystery with Missouri and Tennessee, but Georgia is coming off a CFB Playoff runner-up and they don’t look to be slowing down even with new starters. It’s unclear how Drew Lock will perform under new offensive coordinator Derek Dooley and how Jeremy Pruitt will have the Volunteers going. Thankfully in their case, SEC play will be over early while they have one more home game against Middle Tennessee State before facing archrival Louisville on the road.

If you look at it, there could be another hot seat warming up in the SEC if things don’t turn around quick. Losing four straight bowl games and changing quarterbacks almost every season tends to wear them down. If not for Mullen, the Wildcats would’ve had the chance to end a winning streak which has lasted for over 30 years. Most likely, another Stoops may be done coaching.
