SEC Recruiting: Xavier Truss

Georgia has now picked up two huge commitments in three days, their last was four-star quarterback John Rhys Plumlee out of Mississippi who committed on June 15 and then two days later got one of the most biggest surprises so far. The Bulldogs received a commitment from left tackle Xavier Truss out of Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island. Truss is the only northerner so far to commit to Georgia as his pledge shot Georgia up in the recruiting rankings.

Truss is the first offensive lineman in the 2019 class, and he is also the 102nd ranked player overall as well as 15th in his position and number one in the state of Rhode Island. The biggest surprise to this announcement that it was expected that he would commit to Penn State as predicted by 100% according to 247sports.com. He based his decision on academics at Georgia which led to his decision to go south. Offensive line coach Sam Pittman is the one who recruited him.

Watching his performance in his junior season with the Hawks, Truss is a player that keeps on playing until the whistle blows. He looks quick and continues to go after defensive lineman and linebackers and does not hesitate to pancake them. He appears to know his boundaries as to not to go too far downfield and has the commitment to not only protect his quarterback, but to open lanes for his running back when needed. At times, he has the power to push back any other lineman.

Once he and Plumlee eventually take the field for Georgia, it will be interesting to see how this string will work out as he is potentially a dual-threat. Truss’ commitment has now risen Georgia up to third in the SEC in recruiting and fifth overall in the nation. The 2019 class looks exciting already with now 10 commitments overall onboard.
