CRIS CYBORG started as a professional fighter. She lost that 1st fight back in 2005; then rolled 10 straight wins. A no contest broke that streak. Then as her legend grew 10 more bodies got laid out. Saturday night in California she met up with a 30 year old fellow Brazilian legend killer. No one wanted to fight her and the proof was many women changed divisions to avoid her. GDR forfeited the feather weight belt instead of facing her.

“THE LIONESS” AMANDA NUNES in a tad less then 3 1/2 years twice disposed of the now flyweight champion VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO, along with 2 of the OG’s of female MMA in MIESHA TATE and RONDA ROUSEY. It was destined these 2 sluggers would meet, and frankly the fact that the bantamweight division didn’t have anyone ready helped it along. Amanda started her career at 145 and moved down to 135. Across MMA fighters have realized recently it is in fact better to fight as close to walk around weight as possible. Team Nunes knew the power would translate up a division; but would the speed necessary to get the job done do so also.

We more than got that answer at UFC 232. The two champs threw bombs from the word go, and a right low leg kick took Cyborg momentarily off her game. It opened up for Amanda who came at Cyborg from different angles, moving her head, and of course winging serious haymakers. She clipped the feather weight phenom over and over again. But the spirit of never quitting had Cyborg keep coming. Finally a left right combo then a monstrous overhand right finished what many deemed impossible; Cyborg going face first to the canvas just 51 seconds into the fight. It instantly turned into a pandemonium holy sh** moment. One that years from now you won’t forget where you were and what you were doing.

The ever classy Cyborg; post presser while deeply upset; held her head high and said she rather be the champion of peoples hearts. She has just one fight remaining on her present contract and 145 has never been a real priority for the company. Cyborg has long let it be known she’d like to step into the boxing ring. The re-match vs Amanda is on the table, however; DANA WHITE and Nunes both don’t seem to enthusiastic about it. Cyborg held STRIKEFORCE, INVICTA, and UFC gold. Could or even would the deeply religious fighter consider heading to BELLATOR and try a crack at JULIA BUDD‘s strap. If the UFC kept the female featherweights; Amanda would probably get the option of which belt she rather keep, and most likely whichever one it is will probably be defended against HOLLY HOLM.
