Mocton, Canada was home to UFC FIGHT NIGHT 138. The card overall was far from flashy, but it supplied a few bright moments. With DANIEL CORMIER’s situation still not totally defined yet; the light heavyweight division continued its forward journey.

VOLKAN OEZDEMIR took on the truly starting to find himself ANTHONY SMITH. Both 205ers threw leather early and Volkan’s face showed the effects; turning red. Oezdemir tried softening up Anthony with an assortment of kicks. When he was able to get a takedown he took advantage of positioning, and pounded away on Smith. That seemed to wake Anthony up. Smith started coming forward more aggressively cutting off angles. With sharp striking it noticeably slowed Oezdemir’s pace. Anthony secured a takedown and worked to cinch in a RNC. Soon after Volkan had no choice but to tap to the tightly locked in submission  at 4:26 of round 3. Which wound up being his 1st career submission win.

He did say post fight he needs a break to heal a sore hand, but more importantly to be a dad and spend time with his 3 young daughters. When informed that JON JONES wasn’t too impressed; he said well Jon needs to worry more about GUSTAFSSON than him and Volkan.
