THE SLEDGEHAMMER CONTINUES TO POUND OPPONENTS

A Brazilian went all the way to Czechoslovakia to pick up his 3rd consecutive finish in impressive form. Although this time; THIAGO SANTOS early on vs JAN BLACHOWICZ was quite measured. The battle of the 4th and 6th ranked 205ers started slower than expected thanks to Jan switching stances. But Santos picked his shots from range and countered well with kicks.

In the 3rd Blachowicz who kept the fight close to this point came forward a bit aggressively and got drilled by a left from Thiago going backwards and went down. The fiery Santos went down after him swarming him with left hammer fists. Eventually referee HERB DEAN saw enough and jumped in to stop it 39 seconds into the round for the TKO. The 35 year old Brazilian is now on a 4 fight win streak and has laid his claim to be the next title challenger for whoever wins next Saturday between JON JONES and ANTHONY SMITH (whom he already has a win over; albeit at middleweight).

However; he does despite his ferocity, have holes in his game. He is on the verge though. Perhaps battles with VOLKAN OEZDEMIR or at least ALEXANDER GUSTAFSSON should take place before a crack at the strap. Either way; Thiago in the post fight presser said through a translator he will be sitting cageside for UFC 235. The way title fights are made now-a-days who knows who gets the next shot.
