Before the big dance of UFC 211 in big “D” Dallas Texas’s American Airlines Arena Saturday Night, and before the 211 ceremonial weigh ins; the UFC held it’s “SUMMER KICKOFF PRESS CONFERENCE“.  It highlights what’s coming up over the next couple of months. In the past when they have done these there are always fireworks and explosive moments. But like they say “things are bigger in Texas”; and boy was this one bigger!! 16 fighters on stage representing 8 huge and important fights on some amazing cards.

CLAUDIA GADELHA is taking on KAROLINA KOWALKIEWICZ in an important straw weight battle that may be a number one contenders fight. With the winner taking on the winner of the Andrade-Jedrzejczyk title fight Saturday. The Claudia-Karolina fight is the co-main event to Aldo-Holloway unifying the featherweight title at UFC 212 in Rio. Also on that card is the much anticipated debut of former WSOF star Marlon Moraes vs Rafael Assuncao. Now while these 2 straw weights had their moments, they were pretty much civil to each other.

HOLLY HOLM and BETHE CORREIA tangle in Singapore for UFC Fight Night on June 17. That card also sees RDA return against Tarec Saffiedine. Because Bethe really only speaks Portuguese the sparks couldn’t really fly till it was time to square up. Then they needed to be separated raising the electricity in the building.

Trying and coming close to stealing the show, if not succeeding at that were the 2 combatants in the main event at UFC Fight Night Oklahoma City June 25th; KEVIN LEE  and MICHAEL CHIESA. During the presser Kevin said something about Michael mother buying a ticket, and Chiesa lost it.

They were then actually both brought back up to square off with each other and things got heated again. Which only means America’s heartland will see something explosive. Also noteworthy on that card is Johny Hendricks taking on Tim Boestch and possibly the last fight in the career of THE PRODIGY BJ Penn (against Dennis Siver).

THE HIGHLIGHT JUSTIN GAETHJE takes on THE MENACE MICHAEL JOHNSON during International Fight Week, on July 7th on FS1 from Vegas. These two chirped a lot and it too got heated at times. The undefeated  Justin makes his UFC debut while Michael swears he is not a gatekeeper that should be taken lightly. These two lightweights will be throwing some “heavy” hands and looking to rip each others limbs apart. During the square offs, Justin; who actually in WSOF wasn’t known as a talker did have to get pulled away. One fight on that card that should not be over looked is Angela Hill vs Ashley Yoder. The following night TUF finale takes place at UFC 213. Originally Cody Garbrandt was putting the the bantamweight title up against former teammate TJ Dillashaw. But an old back injury has possibly put the champ on the shelf, as he is presently on his way to Germany to try another stem cell procedure. No word yet if that fight is totally being scratched for now. If it is, there is the possibility of Dominick Cruz stepping in and turning the fight into a number 1 contenders fight. There is word that TJ has requested a fight vs Mighty Mouse Johnson; which he has no interest in after all. So moving to the main event is female bantamweight champ AMANDA NUNES taking on VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO for a 2nd time. Amanda edged her out on the scorecards the 1st time around. There was some heat going between the two, then when it came time to square off they put their fists on each others chins. The Amanda did a little extra by pushing Valentina.

RUTHLESS Robbie Lawler returns to the octagon against Donald Cowboy Cerrone, and Alistair Overeem meets up with Fabricio Werdum.

JOANNE CALDERWOOD and the red hot streaking CYNTHIA CALVILLO face each other July 16 at Fight Night Scotland where Gunnar Nelson and Santiago Ponzinibbio face off as well. Both during the presser and face offs the two women showed restraint towards each other. As a matter of fact so did  KELVIN GASTELUM and CHRIS WEIDMAN throughout the night who take each other on in Chris’s backyard of Long Island at the new Nassau Coliseum for UFC on FOX July 22nd.

Which brings us to the two that just bring the nasty out in each other; JON JONES and DANIEL CORMIER. It’s still undecided as of now if they headline or are the co-main for UFC 214 July 29 in Anaheim. No word yet if Cyborg will be part of that card as she has requested. But they started where they left off just a few months ago with the barbs and had to be pulled away from each other as they both held up belts during the face off. Right before that however, the camera’s caught DC being the only fighter to go near the fan section to sign some autographs till UFC security pulled him away from that. Surprisingly though Daniel did get lots of cheers this time; which is a first when it comes to yapping with Jon.

So while yes it’s true the UFC is far from perfect, and have many many problems; the bookings as of right now are great and guarantee it be a blazing hot summer of fun.
