Vince McMahon Brings Back XFL For 2020 Season

I never thought I would hear the words “This is the XFL” heard on a live broadcast ever again in my lifetime.

Turns out, 19 years after the initial failure of the league, Vince McMahon is giving it one more go through his company, Alpha Entertainment.

Vince McMahon held a press conference on Thursday afternoon to talk about the XFL’s 2020 launch as well as take questions from the media regarding all sorts of topics.

The video of the entire press conference is in the Tweet below from Alpha Entertainment’s official page.

McMahon addressed a bunch of major topics during the approximate 50 minute press conference, including stating that this would NOT be like the old XFL in regards to scantily clad cheerleaders and a football version of a WWE story line. He stated that his goal is to entertain those who are football fans and that political beliefs will not be expressed on the field. It will be all about football. This means NO KNEELING, though McMahon did not specifically address that and dodged reporters questions when asked specifically about the kneeling issue.

McMahon also mentioned that he would own ALL eight franchises, something that is unprecedented in a sports league.

In regards to who would be eligible to play in the XFL, McMahon stated that anybody with a criminal record would NOT be allowed to play in the league, which would mean somebody like Ray Rice or Johnny Manziel would not be allowed in the league. While names such as Colin Kaepernick and Tim Tebow would be ideal for a start up league like this, McMahon stated that this will not be a situation where players such as Kaepernick and Tebow would be signed for their marketability. He wants the highest overall performance out of everyone, so Kaepernick and Tebow, if they would want to play in the XFL, would have to earn their spots.

Interesting to say the least.

I for one can’t wait to see the XFL relaunch.
