Week 1 NFL Headlines

The first week of the NFL season always provides fans with excitement and surprises.

This year was no different as we witnessed a multitude of upsets as well as a tie and a game with multiple lightning delays.

Multiple games had the scoreboards light up and we also witnessed a few key injuries that could potentially hamper the futures of many fantasy owners.

So, here’s your big headlines from week 1:

Injury bug strikes –

We watched a bunch of big names go down in week 1 that could potentially affect the entire season. Greg Olsen, Desean Jackson, Doug Baldwin, Delanie Walker, Luke Keuchly and Leonard Fournette were just the beginning of a lengthy list of week 1 casualties. It’s hard to gage when someone will go down with an injury, so no matter who it is or the severity, it’s always going to have an impact. Right now, Keuchly and Walker are both looking at extended time on the shelf, not good for Carolina and Tennessee.

Cousins who? –

The Washington Redskins proved on Sunday that they could win without Kirk Cousins, as Alex Smith and Adrian Peterson (over 160 total yards from scrimmage) dismantled a good Arizona Cardinals defense. Yes, Cousins was victorious in his first game with his new team in Minnesota, but this victory for Washington could be their most important since their last playoff run.

Tyreek the freak catching those bullets –

Many weren’t sure how exactly Kansas City would move on from their long tenured QB Alex Smith. Turns out K.C. is just fine with their bullet throwing QB Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes found Tyreek Hill early and often, proving to be a menace for a frustrated San Diego Chargers defense.

Hill accumulated almost 300 all purpose yards on the day, giving fantasy owners and Chiefs fans and outstanding week 1 present. The Chiefs are the real deal.

Fair Fair Harvard! –

For those of you who had Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing for over 400 yards and leading the Bucs to a stunning 48-40 victory over the New Orleans Saints, please stand up. Fitzpatrick made Bucs fans forget the name of Jameis Winston, moving the chains with ease. Mike Evans and Desean Jackson were like vacuums sucking up the football’s. There could be trouble brewing in New Orleans after that loss, you would have thought Rob Ryan was still coaching their defense.

Cleveland Rocks (somewhat) –

Well, at least the Cleveland Browns didn’t lose their first game of the year. Though they didn’t win either. Cleveland and Pittsburgh finished in a tie, but we saw a very tenacious defense in Cleveland and an offense that can do damage once Tyrod Taylor gets it clicking. Yes, the Browns were torched by John Conner, but to pick off Roethlisberger multiple times and to take Pittsburgh to the limit, it’s already a better season than last year. Can the Browns get that pesky first win in week two?
